Two goals in the final quarter wrapped up a comfortable 3-0 win for Morton who were rarely under pressure in a disappointing local derby at Dumbarton.
The Sons lined up without their highly-rated forward Iain Russell but it was their defence who were under pressure with Jason Walker twice firing narrowly wide as Morton made the early running.
It was no surprise then when the same player opened the scoring when he was left unmarked to head home James McAlistair free-kick after half an hour.
Dumbarton replied with a spectacular overhead effort by Gordon Herd but it was the visitors who should have extended their lead seconds after the restart when Alex Williams blasted over from close range.
Ian Dobbins headed John Dillon's cross against the bar as Dumbarton searched for a leveller, but it was Dobbins at fault when his slip let in Peter Weatherson and the substitute's low shot beat the helpless Stephen Grindlay.
Morton added a third six minutes from time when John Maisano's corner was not properly cleared and centre-half Stewart Greacen launched himself to send a header into the roof of the net.
