Following yesterday's 3-0 win over Stirling Albion, Morton not only leapfrogged the Binos into 3rd place, but also overtook Albion, Brechin and Stranraer at the top of the "fewest goals conceded" chart.
With only one goal conceded in the last four outings, the 'Ton have a respectable conceded column of fourteen, whilst Brechin City are up to fifteen following yesterday's late capitulation at Gayfield, where they conceded two goals at the death. League leaders Stranraer continued their winning run and attained a clean sheet against Dumbarton, but still sit level on goals conceded with Brechin. Stirling, level with Morton yesterday morning, now sit on seventeen, one more than Ayr United with a respectable sixteen.
Great stuff, but why care, you may ask? Well, Morton's defence has been notoriously leaky for many a year now, and having a goals-conceded-per-game average of just 1 is certainly cause for celebration. Whether it's the introduction of consistent 4-4-2, the team seleciton, the midfield's holding ability, the introduction of David McGurn to the first team or plain good luck, Morton have set themselves a good precedent to build off.
However, only one column on the table really matters - the points column. Stranraer still lead the pack, with Brechin sitting second despite yesterday's disappointment against an improvin Arbroath side. All that said, you read this article anyway, so you must care a little bit, or have too much time to waste.
