Morton's reserve side took to the Cappielow (not Love Street as I previously - and idiotically - stated) pitch tonight, wherein they were soundly spanked by a more senior and - one would hesitate to deny this - better St. Mirren outfit.
Even the presence of Craig Coyle and Marco Maisano from the first team could not stop the young Morton squad - containing three trialists - from being on the receiving end of a sound gubbing. The St. Mirren side, featuring Baird, Ellis, Crilly and player-manager Gus McPherson, easily overcame the inexperienced Greenock outfit. Manager Jim McInally, overseeing a few players for the first time tonight, will have food for thought as Morton's threadbare squad crumples under the weight of a relentless St. Mirren attack.
St. Mirren's goals came from McKenna (2), Ellis, Malloy, Russel, Baird and Anderson, with John Baird's overhead kick possibly the pick of the bunch.
St. Mirren: Woods, McLay, Ellis, McPherson, Dempise, McFarlane, Crilly, Malloy, Russel, Baird, McKenna
Morton: Coyle, Hamilton, Trialist, McMaster, Gilbride, McLeod, Harkins, Trialist, Maisano M., McLean, Trialist
