Allegedly, East Stirlingshire FC requested of Morton that their Scottish Cup First Round tie at Cappielow, rescheduled for Tuesday night at 7:30pm, be moved yet again to next Saturday afternoon. The reason for this is that East Stirlingshire rely on part-time players, famously paid around £10 a week, and the club cannot (or will not) compensate the players for missed time at work. As such, they'd only be able to field a team of seven or so.
Club chairman and moustache-twirling baddie Alan Mackin spoke to The Scotsman earlier and said,
"We cannot afford to pay our players for missing their work. A number of them work in Edinburgh and I fear they will not be able to get to Greenock in time."
This rescheduling would affect Morton, who are due to travel to Glebe Park to meet fellow high-flyers Brechin City on Saturday. As such, it is understood that Morton were reluctant to accept this change, preferring an afternoon fixture for the League game. Regardless, 'Shire apparently contacted the SFA for help, who allegedly demanded that the game go ahead on this previously agreed date of Tuesday November 23.
Mackin will be left wondering how much money he missed out on by virtue of the depleted attendance tomorrow. 'Shire sponsors Littlewoods are apparently running a free bus from Falkirk to the game, but unless they're stopping off in Glasgow on the way, I doubt that I for one will be able to make it to the game. Which is what's really important, after all.
