The Sunday Herald reports that Jim McInally has pledged to Morton chairman DDF Rae that if he doesn't get Morton promoted this season or next, he will resign from him post as Morton manager.
The admission comes during an interview in which he cites past managerial influences such as Brian Clough and Jim McLean, as well as looking back on his spell as Celtic u-17 coach.
Morton have an unofficial "three year plan" of reaching Division One - this is the third year of the scheme, and promotion is certainly the target this season. However, this interview seems to suggest that, should Morton's season not be a total disaster yet they fail to go up, McInally will be given another bite at the cherry next year. Should he bring in his own players in January or in the summer, we might see a squad more capable of challenging than this season.
