Morton were given draws that, as two dichotomic cliches would have it, are either a Go To Round 3, Collect £200 As You Pass Go ticket, or two potential banana skins just waiting for Morton's sizable foot.
In the first round, Morton have a home tie against East Stirlingshire, whose league record so far is comparable to that of last season - namely, awful. Rumours abound of club chairman Alan Mackin running the team at a bare-bones cost so as to maximise his own profit; whatever the truth of the matter is, the 'Shire are a club most teams would have loved to get.
In the second round, slightly more "exotic" fare awaits the victor of that tie, with a trip to either Cove Rangers or Dalbeattie Star. The two non-league sides, of the Highland League and the East of Scotland League respectively, are no strangers to cup runs, and will be more than willing to disabuse league opposition of its airs and preconceptions.
