Finlayson Signs For Morton

Jubilant scenes may accompany Kevin's arrival
Kevin Finlayson has signed for Greenock Morton today from Stranraer. There may or may not be a parade (pictured) to honour his arrival.

The right-sided midfielder is allegedly as fast as nine greyhounds with "Turbo-XL" daubed on their flanks with Tipp-Ex. With Paul Walker, Morton's top assistee last season, recently departing the club, Finlayson may well be just the type of player we need to fill Paul's tiny boots.

For friendless loners, the 25 year old's career statistics can be found here. For the rest of you, check out the official club website for some more information.

A three-year deal has been agreed between club and player, but this has left many fans (i.e. me) asking questions. Long contracts make it more feasible to attract transfer fees for star players, as well as ensuring a bit of stability. But with Alex Williams likely to feature only in the reserves for the final year of his lucrative contract, and Morton's full-time future still not entirely certain, handing out three year contracts to the likes of Harding and Finlayson may not be without its drawbacks. While few would argue that both players will prove to be great additions to the club, Finlayson may suffer from the same shaky start experienced by Chris Templeman, due to their both having to make the step up from part-time to full-time football.

However, our midfield has required strengthening for a long time now; it is good to see that Jim McInally recognises team weaknesses and is able to act on them. Next, dare we hope, a holding midfielder?
