With John McCormack deemed surplus to requirements at Cappielow last month, the changes were well and truly rung in the backroom. Steven Frail, former youth coach and then assistant manager, was also punted out onto Sinclair Street, P45 in hand. However, he can now consign his dole book to the bin, as he's back at his old club Hearts in a catch-all coaching role.
Frail originally came to Cappielow as a player just in time for the 2001/2002 season, during which he was a regular fixture in the team that succumbed to relegation to Division 3. Following his disappearance from the first team squad, he took over youth team affairs under Dave McPherson, and later on also coached the reserve team. It was not until Joe McLaughlin was brought in only a few weeks ago that he permanently left the Cappielow youth setup, and of course, we all know what happened next.
Hearts boss Craig Levein played alongside Frail at the Edinburgh club earlier in Steven's career; the old-boy network was doubtless vital in helping him secure SPL employment only weeks after ignominiously being shown the Cappielow door. However, Frail's reputation for hard work, as well as his extensive top division playing experience as well as lower-league coaching credentials, were doubtless to secure him a job somewhere in the Scottish game. Certainly he'd been putting himself about; in today's Metro, Frail spoke passionately about wanting to get back into the game and to give coaching another shot. We of Morton-Mad wish Frail the best of luck in his new endeavours.
Now, I wonder when Cowboy will be able to find a new post in the game?
